DESCRIPTION

8 days of ski touring in the heart of the Caucasus, among ancient villages, epic descents, and authentic culture.

Get ready to experience a truly unique journey in Georgia’s most spectacular and unspoiled region: Svaneti, a gem nestled among the snow-covered peaks of the Greater Caucasus. A paradise for ski touring, where technical lines, untouched slopes, striking couloirs, and wild forests come together, all framed by medieval villages, stone towers, and an ancient culture that is still very much alive.

Who this trip is for:
Ski touring enthusiasts with good physical fitness and a spirit of adventure. The program includes tours of medium difficulty, with the possibility of daily adjustments based on weather conditions and the group’s skill level.

THE PROGRAM

  • Meeting at Venice Marco Polo Airport in the early afternoon and direct flight to Kutaisi.
  • Arrival in Kutaisi is scheduled for approximately 11:00 PM (GMT +4).
  • Short transfer to the hotel.
  • Wake-up and breakfast at the hotel.
  • Private minibus transfer to Mestia, the historic capital of the Svaneti region (approximately 4–5 hours), passing through some of the most spectacular landscapes in the Caucasus.
  • Arrival in Mestia, lunch, hotel check-in, and trip briefing with a final equipment check.
  • The remainder of the afternoon will be dedicated to a refresher session and practical training on avalanche rescue techniques.
  • We warm up our legs with a few runs at Tetnuldi Ski Resort, one of the highest ski areas in the Caucasus.
  • In the afternoon, we climb with skins to reach a panoramic balcony, from which a long and exciting 1,300-meter descent leads us down to the incredible medieval village of Adishi (2,040 m).
  • Traditional dinner and overnight stay in a local guesthouse in Adishi.

Ascent: +150 m | Descent: –1,300 m

  • Departure on skis directly from the village of Adishi.
  • We begin the most alpine section of the trip, with a spectacular ascent starting among the village towers and leading into the wide plain known as theTheatre of Stones,” before tackling the couloir that leads to the summit.
  • Descent along the same route.
  • At the end of the day, transfer by 4×4 to Ushguli, one of the highest and most fascinating villages in Europe.
  • Dinner and overnight stay in a guesthouse in Ushguli.

Ascent: approx. +1,400 m

  • Wake-up and hearty breakfast in the village of Ushguli.
  • We start with a gentle descent to the hamlet of Agra, then climb back up through forests and open valleys in search of the best line. Endless spaces, powder snow, and breathtaking panoramas.
  • Traditional dinner and overnight stay in a local guesthouse in Ushguli.

Ascent: approx. +1,150 m

  • Final panoramic tour near Ushguli, with spectacular views of the surrounding peaks.
  • A shorter day, allowing us to return to Mestia in the afternoon, with free time to explore the historic center, go shopping, or relax.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight stay in a hotel.

Ascent: approx. +900 m

  • Wake-up and hearty breakfast in Mestia.
  • With the help of a snowcat (optional: cost €600.00 to be shared among participants), we ascend to 2,400 m and then continue on skins up to the pass (3,200 m). From there, a breathtaking 1,700-meter descent awaits us in a glacial environment, among seracs and towering peaks.
  • Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel in Mestia.

Ascent: approx. +800 m | Descent: –1,700 m

  • One of the most spectacular and rewarding tours of the trip. We will ascend through the wild Becho Valley, following an increasingly steep route to a stunning panoramic pass overlooking the great peaks of the Caucasus.
  • After the descent, transfer to Kutaisi Airport for the return flight to Venice Marco Polo. Departure is scheduled for 11:50 PM, with arrival at 12:45 AM (GMT +4).  
  • One last look at the mountains before heading home—the Caucasus will leave a lasting impression, both in your heart and in your legs.
