Ferrata Caprioli a San Vito di Cadore

Description

The via ferrata Caprioli in San Vito di Cadore, opened in late June 2024, is a recent addition that enriches the offerings for mountain and via ferrata enthusiasts. Made possible through the financial efforts of numerous local authorities, it is located in the heart of the Dolomites and offers a combination of technical challenges and amazing views of the surrounding peaks. This ferrata was created by the Guide Alpine Cortina and offers a medium difficulty route with challenging sections suitable for experienced hikers.

The ferrata is named after the Caprioli San Vito Sports Association, which has been active since the postwar period and has promoted various sports activities, particularly skiing and climbing. The association has contributed significantly to the development of the local community. The association has contributed significantly to the development of the local community.

Current route state

Reach the Sun Bar at San Vito di Cadore and park there, from here follow the trail 228, cross the Ru Seco stream, and continue for about 20 minutes to a crossroads. Take the small wooded road to the left, which is very steep and marked with the logo of two opposing roe deer heads. Follow the trail to an elevation of 1470 m, the starting point of the ferrata.

Ascent description

The climb features incredible scenery and breathtaking views of the Dolomites, particularly on Mount Antelao. Along the route you will find grassy initial sections that can become slippery in rain and high sections with rocky slabs and metal support brackets.

The ferrata ends on a scenic meadow, Pra de Mason, at 1750 m. From here, in about 20 minutes, you reach the San Marco refuge, a little gem at the bottom of Cima Belprà mountain, facing the majestic Mount Antelao.

Descent description

From the San Marco hut, follow trail n. 228, pass the Scotter refuge and back to the Sun Bar hut, completing the loop.
