Beautiful crossing that, starting from the top of the middle Tofana, allows to climb over the nearby and more solitary peak of the Tofana di Dentro. If combined with the Ferrata G. Aglio alla Tofana di Mezzo it is a complete excursion and a ring tour of considerable effort.
Route in altitude of medium difficulty to deal with only with the best weather conditions. The itinerary, often snow-capped at the beginning of the season, requires a good mountaineering experience, and attention especially in the descent to the northern Ridge and in the stretches with stony and crummable terrain.
NOTE – FERRATA FORMENTON CLOSED DUE TO A LANDSLIDE IN CONSTANT MONITORING IT IS ONLY POSSIBLE TO TAKE THE FERRATA FROM TOFANA DI MEZZO TO TOFANA DI DENTRO AND BACK TO TOFANA DI MEZZO.
From Cortina with the three sections of cable-car “Freccia nel Cielo” you reach the top station and from here you follow the path to the top of the middle Tofana until the junction with the signs for the Ferrata Formenton to Tofana III.
The ascent to the top of the middle Tofana as optional is a useful (and duty) start to the excursion.
From the junction below the top of Tofana di mezzo, climbed over the ridge, you descend with the help of the fixed ropes steeply to the saddle between the Tofana di Mezzo and the nearby Tofana di Dentro (or Tofana III). Then tap on the lowest point between the two tofane to start climbing to the easy ledges and the terraced rocks of the southern ridge of Tofana III.
Although not demanding, the climb is assuring satisfaction. Crossed remnants of military barracks and a cave in short, for the wide and dejected terminal Crest, you touch the top (3237m).
Return to Tofana di Mezzo to descend by cable car.
Currently it is not possible to descend by trail 407, as it is closed due to landslide.
