Description

Very interesting itinerary on the Panorama side view but certainly amazing from the historical point of view.

Historic ring route that runs through the Kaiserjäger-occupied outposts in the Great War. Interesting the crossing of the suspension bridge. The iron path is exposed in places, very scenic, and the technical difficulty is rather low. Descent along the gallery built by the Alpini.

It climbs along the south face of Mt. Lagazuoi and although it is not technically difficult, it must be approached carefully.

Access

From Falzarego Pass, in front of the cable car station, there is trail nr.402 that climbs westward on a scree, encountering numerous reconstructions of the old barracks of the Great War. The path goes zigzag to the attack of the equipped path.

Ascent description

From the beginning of the equipped path you climb up iron steps and you go through a system of ledges up to the suspension bridge about 10 m. and 25 m high.

From here you come to an exposed ledge and then you climb along the trenches and meeting also well-preserved locations until you reach the famous ledge Martini. From here you climb westward to the trail that leads to the ridge and then to the top of the Piccolo Lagazuoi. From here you can see the refuge Lagazuoi reachable in 10 minutes.

Descent description

From the cable car station, starts the path that, between the trenches, leads to the entrance of the tunnel. You lose altitude very quickly and come out of the gallery to walk a last stretch of ledge to return to the trail 402 and go back to the Falzarego pass.
