“Seen from Cortina it has the form of a ducal horn…” De Falkner.
The climb is short, nice and fun. First ascent Utterson Kelso with Santo Siorpaes on July 5, 1872 for the SW wall. Pleasant ascent on small peak, in restful places. A relatively easy itinerary featuring one athletic section inside a chimney. From the summit, a breathtaking 360-degree panorama opens over the Dolomites. Although considered a minor peak, its spectacular setting makes it truly unique.
The approach starts from Rifugio Croda da Lago. Follow trail 434 towards Forcella Ambrizola, then continue along the ridge heading south-east. A faint track leads across a comfortable ledge before passing two large boulders and climbing a narrow gully that opens onto a wider scree slope. Ascending the scree leads to the start of the route. Approximate approach time: 1 hour and 30 minutes from the refuge. A shuttle service to the refuge is also available.
The descent follows the same route back. Retracing the ascent itinerary and completing three short abseils leads back to the base of the climb, from where the trail returns to the refuge. Approximate descent time: 1 hour and 15 minutes.
